ONEDRIVE


What is it?

Microsoft OneDrive is a file hosting service and synchronization service operated by Microsoft as part of its web version of Microsoft 365.


Who is it for?

OneDrive is included with a Microsoft 365 account.

It is available at no cost to all University of Calgary faculty, staff, and students.


What can it do?

OneDrive is a cloud storage service from Microsoft that allows you to store all your important files securely in one place and then access them virtually anywhere. It also makes it easy to share content with other people and collaborate using Microsoft 365 integration. OneDrive is available for home, business, work or school.

OneDrive for work or school has the following features:

Storage
  • A minimum of 1 TB of space in the cloud with a Microsoft 365 account. If the OneDrive library is hosted on SharePoint Server in your organization, then the administrators determine how much storage is available

Accessibility
  • Easily store, access and share work files in Mircosoft 365 (including Microsoft Teams) from all your devices. Any edits made offline will sync automatically next time you connect
  • OneDrive mobile app can allow you to use OneDrive from any device while on-the-go

Sharing and collaboration
  • You can share files and folders with co-workers or students so you can collaborate on projcets. Use a mobile device to scan documents or notes

Privacy
  • The files stored on your OneDrive are private unless you decide to share them

Sync OneDrive
  • You can sync OneDrive with your local computer. You will need the OneDrive Sync app which comes with Mircosoft Office 365 subscriptions
