What is it?

To promote the goal of student learning this website provides a platform of discussion about effective assessment throughout the campus community.

Who is it for?

Faculty and instructors at the University of Calgary.

What can it do?

The blog provides information about the following: 

Principles of assessment:
  • A list of all the main principles guiding the choices around how, why and when to assess students, conceptualizing assessment and assessment stratgies

Strategies:
  • The strategies menu provides a list of effective assessment techniques being used by instructors at the University of Calgary

Examples:
  • A list of 10 common motivations that instructors had for selecting their assessment methods, each with several specific examples from a variety of disciplines

Course design:
  • Resources to help think about the framework of courses and how assessment fits into them

Design assessment for specific types of courses:
  • Experiential courses
  • Portfolio courses
  • Case-based courses
  • Inquiry-based courses
  • Large classes
